The generation of new knowledge through research is a key goal of the Mary Heersink Institute for Global Health.

We work with our partners to generate solutions to complex problems and to determine their efficacy and effectiveness through the conduct of high-quality clinical trials, implementation science, and outcomes research. Whether it is addressing cancer prevention, maternal and infant mortality, HIV, or the tuberculosis pandemic, UAB researchers and our global partners are making an enduring impact.

The current focus of the institute is to develop innovative tools and strategies to address priority global health problems. Key focal areas include maternal and child health, trauma and injury, communicable diseases, and non-communicable diseases including cancer. The institute supports research focusing on technologies to improve health and health care access by conducting large-scale, multicenter, multinational trials and implementation studies to identify the best global health solutions.
